Vitamin E is considered an Antioxidant which protects and blocks your cells from molecules produced when your body breaks down food, or by environmental exposures such as tobacco smoke and radiation and other toxins and pollutants. These harmful molecules are called Free radicals and can damage cells and contribute to the aging process and diseases such as cancer, stroke, inflammatory conditions like arthritis or cardiac disease. Vitamin E can also be found in foods like fruits and vegetables, nuts, grains, and some meats, poultry and fish. Vitamin E has been known to help thin blood and block cholesterol build up that sticks to the blood vessels. This is one of its many benefits because blood flows more easily through arteries and blood vessels which contribute to a prevention strategy for heart disease and other cardio conditions.

Other studies with Vitamin E have been completed that resulted in postmenopausal women having a less risk of death from stroke and reduction of hot flashes for this group of women. Vitamin E that was taken with Aspirin decreased the risk of stroke because it reduced the build up on the blood vessel walls. As people age, they may experience cataracts, Uveitis, or age related macular degeneration. These are eye conditions that are the most common cause of blindness in the US and consuming Vitamin E may help protect against them because of its antioxidant action.

People that have a Vitamin E deficiency may experience muscle weakness, loss of muscle mass, abnormal eye movements, impaired vision, and unsteady gait. Listed below are some ways that we have reason to believe Vitamin E may be beneficial for both prevention and treatment:
  • Delaying the maturing of cells and tissues
  • Protecting and blocking the cells of environmental pollutants
  • Improving anemia
  • Speeding wound and burn healing
  • Lowering blood pressure
  • Possible prevention of diabetes and cardiovascular disease
  • Delaying development of Parkinson's disease
  • Easing premenstrual discomfort and aches
  • Restoring vital nutrients in those with IBD(inflammatory bowel disease)
  • Inhibiting the growth of some cancers
  • Avoiding miscarriage; this may be caused by Vitamin E deficiencies.
